Hearing capacity assessed 3 weeks after acute pneumococcal meningitis. ABR recordings using broadband click stimuli disclosed significantly increased hearing threshold in infected rats. Combined adjuvant therapy significantly improved hearing capacity in infected rats compared to CRO monotherapy (a). Pure tone ABR threshold (mean ± 95% confidence interval) demonstrated significantly impaired hearing in infected animals but improved hearing function in infected rats receiving the combined adjuvant therapy (b).
